VIDEO PLAYERS
All of these media players are available as free downloads
VLC Media Player: This multi-function, multi-featured player is widely known and used for its ability to play every video format except DRM protected wmv (which isn't that common). Its drawbacks are that it can be a bit cumbersome to use, and its features aren't as easily accessed as with the GOM player. Nevertheless it is highly recommended, (Mac version available)

GOM Media Player: Another multi-function, multi-featured player that accepts every video format other than DRM protected wmv. It is exceptionally easy to use, and its many useful features are easy to access through a variety of ways including simple keyboard strokes. If GOM has any drawbacks, I haven't found them yet. Highly recommended. (MAC version available)

Windows Media Player: This is a bare-bones player. Its only controls are play, pause, FF and volume. It does not play all video formats. However it is the only player that accepts DRM Protected wmv. If you choose to get this player, be sure to download the correct version for your Windows operating system. Recommended only for its ability to play DRM protected wmv. (Mac version available)

Real Player: Not recommended for video. However, you probably need it for some streaming audio including some internet radio. Don't bother with the premium version which can hide advertising on your desktop. (Mac version available)

DIVX Video Player: Developed as a way to promote the DIVX video format and sell certain content, it's a snazzy looking player, but it really isn't anything special. Since the GOM and VLC players handle DIVX just fine, there is no reason to have this one taking up hard disc space. I have deleted my copy. Available as free and paid versions.
