Body Art
I am wondering, does anyone else get distracted by models with a lot of body art? Does it take away from the general "feeling" of a video, when there are large and sometimes numerous tattoos? Do the tattoos make it better for you, in terms of the way you perceive the actress as a bad or "evil" girl? I am speaking, of course, for those scenes where a model is dressed a bit more fashionably, yet the body art is still very obvious, like it is somehow, part of the story.
Any thoughts?

Re: Body Art
My personal perspective is that I find tattoos very limiting for the actress. With a few notable exceptions (as detailed below), I will not film with over-tattooed models; although, that is a personal preference only. Velvet is an exception, because she has become a good friend, is an outstanding actress, and is agreeable to covering up her large back tattoo. I have insisted that she cover this tattoo whenever possible. I have told her that I feel that it detracts from her looks. I have used it for an upcoming vampire video, because it suits that character, but it does not suit my glamourous Silk Videos roles. Another model who I have accepted to work with is Melina. Again, her large, but quite attractive, back tattoo is usually covered. She is also an exception, because I think she's really hot. Finally, Petra herself has a rather large back tattoo. I almost cried when she did that to her beautiful body, but she is still so very hot that I can overlook it. Again, this is just a personal opinion, but I feel that there are perhaps 1% of tattoo artists who can actually enhance a woman's beauty with a tattoo... and that's probably being overly generous. Petra, Velvet and Melina would be even more beautiful if their tattoos were removed.
Well, that's only one opinion. I'm sure there will be others going both ways on this subject.

Re: Body Art
Depends.
From a photographers perspective, I enjoy well-placed, meaningful tattoos when combined with certain girls, various body-types, in combination with whatever context I take the photos in.
For fetish, since my personal tastes are girl-next-door type look, I tend to get distracted by anything but the smallest tattoo and prefer none at all.
As a producer, I pass on a lot of potential models that have tattoos. However, I don't pass on all of them. If they have a certain "je ne se qua", I will likely try them out, see how they sell and use them as I can based on demand.
In addition, depending on the placement of the tattoo and how many, I may choose to only cast them on roles that fit.
In some cases, the girl will fit the girl-next-door look that I like, but have a tattoo that I do not feel would work with that type of story. So, I might do creative costuming or makeup to still be able to use them in the way that I want.
I live in a region of the world where tattoos are the norm rather then the exception. So, it is rare to find someone with no tattoos. But, the curve seems to be in my favor, as I have had many with no tats come and work for me over the years and currently have 4-5 available.

My scar is my tatoo.
That is limiting enough for me, so I only use temporary tatoos when I need one for certain dramatic situations:

Re: Body Art
I think if the girl is going to portray a Bad Girl or Gangster type the tattoos would enhance the casting; however I think we have mostly got used to the fact that tattoos are not uncommon amongst women these days so I don't really worry one way or tother.

Re: Body Art
I'm another old fart who thinks tatoos are tacky, both on lovely women and on ugly men! I just don't get it. Tatoos in an erotic context completely turn me off. I always think of carnival riffraff, biker beer babes, and trailer park losers with rotten teeth and litters of dirty kids. I mean, just who is really succeeding at trying to resemble a geisha or a yakuza? With beautiful women like Petra I try to ignore tatoos, but even she could look tacky if she got more of them..........................elsullo

Re: Body Art
I'm not wild about tattoos either, but one model I work with has one on her shoulder that I think is really sexy. What I really hate are the "butt cap" or "tramp stamp" tattoos. I also hate seeing tattoos on people who don't exercise enough to show off the skin they are inscribed on. This goes equally for men and women.

Re: Body Art
I am not overly fond of females or males getting tattoos that covers what seems to be a large area of their body. I can tolerate the smaller ones. Anything in excess is always harmful.

Re: Body Art
Tatoos are a definate turn off and do nothing to enhance the body in my opinion.
Why people do it to themselves is beyond me, especially those who work in industries where their body is their product.
Sure there may be certain roles, such as the already mentioned vampire, where a tat is appropriate but in that case it is just another costume item, so temporary tats is the way to go.

I certainly appreciate everyone's responses and I thank each of you for taking a short bit of your time to make your preferences known.
I will say that I am most definitely not a fan of body art. I do not care for permanent tattoos nor do I want to see jewelry impaled in any part of a body, female or male. I find these things to be very distracting. I am glad to know I am not alone in my view of this subject.

Re: Body Art
I will also cast my vote against tattoos. I have seen some otherwise beautiful young women who, in my opinion, have destroyed their beauty with tats and facial "jewelry".
I wonder if these people thought about what the "art" is going to look like 20+ years from now, after maybe gaining and loosing weight ( maybe having a child) , or after gravity takes its toll.
I am in my 50's, one of my best female friends has a large tat on her thigh. When she was 25 and weighed 110 it was a work of art, now at 54, two kids later, gaining weight to about 160 at one point, now back down to 130, it no longer resembles the way it was drawn, and my friend is considering lazer surgery to remove it.
I commented in my blog, I know a model who had Live, love, laugh tattooed across her chest just above her boobs 10 years ago, when she was a 32 a chest. Now she is a 34 C ( after kids) and ashamed to wear a bikini, most of the time wears a high necked tee shirt because otherwise, all you can see is "love"

I also have a friend that has some sort of oriental symbols on her chest that is surprisingly attractive. For me I guess I need to look at this on a case by case basis, but in general, I don't like tattoos. Most fail the test.Max5s wrote:I'm not wild about tattoos either, but one model I work with has one on her shoulder that I think is really sexy.
