But Final Cut people always say this because they jumped ship on Premiere because it had problems and found that Cut had them also but where else were they going to go. And because of that, they didn't know that Premiere had done the same fixes as Cut did to solve these problems. Premiere since Pro does not crash ever. And it has everything cut has. The only difference from Mac to PC is the price.
Well, a lot of people with experience with both PC's and MAC's would certainly take exception to the above,
including the independent rating companies. Now that the MAC's are using Intel chips, you can actually run any PC programs on them as well. I have personally built over 200 PC's [high end models for people who do heavy graphics, gaming, or require servers with plenty of muscle] and I have repaired hundreds of mass produced PC's which are mostly crap; by comparison, the components of MAC's are much higher quality components than those found in off the shelf PC's.
As far as FCP crashing. Well, I didn't start using it till FCP 3. I think I might have had one crash in 6 years. I have never used MAC OS 9, and your comments regarding MAC sound like they are based upon the old, piecemeal OS. But MAC OS X is a whole different kitty. It is essentially BSD UNIX. Unix is a
real operating system as opposed to any iteration of windows which is hundreds of little turds [lovingly known as "DLL's"] scattered around the computer like a mad woman's sh*t. Unix is powerful enough to run entire countries computer systems.

How absurd and illogical to direct your argument against MAC users. Most MAC users I know use them because the computers themselves are a better physical product and because the Operating System has exponentially fewer crashes than any system that oozed out of Microsoft's back end. It is a matter of people who live "where the rubber meets the road" make choices based upon their real world experience; not because of some absurd ego based reason. If you are a "git r done' person, it's a pretty logical choice, actually.
Paul-KHP wrote:I didn't mean to suggest that some one hated the Mac. Just that it was no different or better as they thought it would be. Independent test have shown that both perform pretty much the same. But everything I've seen shows the Mac to be a lot higher in price.
Whaaaaaaaaaaat? Intelligent people tend to make decisions on performance, price, and reliability, not emotional whims or prejudices. If you compare a high end PC to an off the shelf MAC (they only make high end models) the performance of the "box" is pretty comparable. So is the price. A $300 PC does not perform at the same level as an off the shelf MAC. However, the garden variety monitors for PC's, especially the lower priced ones, tend to be (and look) anemic. The standard resolution for MAC graphic components (off the shelf) is generally far better than the resolution possible for off the shelf PC's. You certainly can get monitors and graphics for PC's that are comparable to MAC monitors and graphics, but the price differential evaporates pretty quickly. Beyond the 'box', the PC falls on it's face as far as reliability. I have Vista on one of my PC's and while it's crash resistant compared to earlier windows editions, it fails miserably with some media conversion programs I use. It is as stable, but not as functional as Windows XP -64 bit which in my experience has been very stable. Probably only two or three crashes since 2005 when I first got it. It runs all day, every day, 24/7, 365 days a year [as do my MAC's]
This thread was supposed to be about MUSIC in videos.
My bottom line. No matter what you edit with, or what sort of a box you are running, including a musical score and appropriate, high quality sound Fx increases the production value of nearly any movie, IMHO. Customers seem to appreciate a good musical score and Sound Fx and if you give them either that isn't good or isn't appropriate for the scene, they will sure let you know. Well, it certainly enhances my viewing pleasure.
