As for the clip from 'Dead Man' I wasn't criticizing the wound effect at all. It was a very good special effect. I suspect it was a practical effect, rather than CGI. But also it wasn't a squib effect. It was a good death scene as well. Very sexy girl, who might have survived if she had learned to keep her mouth shut. But if it weren't for dames and their unruly mouths, we might not have as much fun.
Also, Johnny Depp's character needs to practice shooting. A stationary target at close range and he missed the first two shots?! I suspect that this wound effect was created the same way.
Again, let me repeat: it was a very good special effect and added much to the death scene.

Yes, they do. But it all comes down to budgets and production support, from professional actors to the on-set folks to the technology involved in the post-production and paid time required for working effects. Squibs are a perfect example. One squib shot costs more than the total revenue I get in six months.
It's not obvious, of courses. But I'm lucky to get $750 in revenue from a clip these days, before marketing site commissions. Total. So, that has to pay for everything, most particularly the post-production technology and time. As a result, it is impossible to budget more than that on average for clip production.
Some other producers get more money from the productions because they add x-rated content. Others have some cost advantages because of non-US actor fees and other elements. But we all struggle continuously with the depressing reality that doing this work is, at best, an act of love of the fetish material itself.

no criticism of budget problems, i rather wanted to allude to the fact that even mainstream directors sometimes want to play out their dark side... especially the munich scene is - without the background story (unscrupulous terrorist etc.) - extremely misogynistic.

Both of the "Munich" versions had fairly good shootings of the female, but that last one was a classic. Made me envious!

sometimes it's the quantity that counts...

but my favorites are the girl with the wobbling helmet (0:20) and the half naked girl shouting, running and shooting (0:30)
