Thanks guys for the replies. Have turned my tower over to the Geek Squad. They recognized the virus. I will be off-line for videos for two weeks

The source is unknown. Whether it activated on its own is unknown. I could only report what I was doing when it appeared. It could be sneaky enough to detect effective anti-virus software and decide to avoid contamination. Again unknown.

Viruses and trojans are pretty sophisticated these days.

Back when I was still a PC user, my exh got a bad virus that took us 3 days to recover from.

I'm on a Mac now and feel so much less vulnerable.

Picked up my tower today and spent an hour of agony reconnecting the cables. And, shucks, the darn thing works and has been cleaned up. Though I paid a princely sum, I have it all back again. Someday I will even post at nicheclips.
