Access to Source Material

As of today, I have discontinued recording scenes from DVD and Blu-Ray discs. Going forward, I will only record scenes from streaming media sites.

Clip Requests

Since my access to source material is now greatly reduced, I am no longer taking clip requests. As such, I have removed the Request Log and all clip request links.

Thanks to a post by Thof on Fetnoir's Flicks forum, I edited my own copy of the strangling from the TV series Vikings and posted it on my site. This is the third and final clip for May.

CINEMASPHYXIA.COM IS SAVED!

Last December, I announced that the site would be closing when my domain name expires in two years because of a newly developed incompatibility between my video recorder – Fraps – and a new version of my video editor – Pinnacle Studio 19. Simply put, Studio 19 doesn’t support the Fraps video format. That issue was further complicated with the release of Windows 10. I also wrote that I would stay with Windows 7 and keep using the previous version of my video editor – Pinnacle Studio 18 – until my domain name expires.

Security updates for Windows 7 will discontinue in January 2020. I was going to upgrade to Windows 10 in January 2018, permanently discontinue clip updates, and then shut the site down in November 2018.

I recently got tired of delaying the inevitable and upgraded to Windows 10, and I’m still using Pinnacle Studio 18 to edit Fraps videos. Bearing that in mind, it occurred to me that I don’t need to upgrade my video editor anymore. Studio 18 has everything I need to keep editing clips, indefinitely. The only catch is that I can only record source material from streaming media sites.

Now that the site is saved, the following changes are effective immediately:

• Clip updates will continue on a semi-regular monthly posting schedule, provided I’ve acquired anything new. I recommend subscribing to the RSS feed.
• I’ve switched back 720 HD WMV as my preferred HD format. MP4 is nice, but file sizes are enormous. Case in point, the MP4 for Slipping Into Darkness was 623 MB. The WMV I’ve replaced it with is 340 MB.
• I’ve resumed my ongoing project to upgrade my old clips. As before, there is no time table for completion.
• The Request Log is back, and I’m taking requests again.

August Update Finally Here

I recently discovered DeviantArt allows viewing of adult content by simply entering your date of birth, without having to register or log in, so I’ve removed all traces of my 3D art from my blog entries on Cinemasphyxia. Going forward, Cinemasphyxia will be focused squarely on video clips.

I’ve edited 5 new clips and upgraded 14. I’ve posted 3 of them for this month, and will post the rest throughout September as I continue redesigning the layouts for the clip pages.

New for August is a clip from the following:

In other news, my attempt to teach myself how to play the Violin was a bust. After spending three months developing my bowing technique, I started work on my right hand, learning how to play notes. Unfortunately, I quickly encountered problems with tension in my wrist and forearm that kept me from practicing for more than a few seconds at a time. Without a teacher to guide me, I was unable to correct any posture-related issues that might've been causing the tension, and I didn't want to risk permanent damage to my arm. So, I returned the Violin and canceled my rental agreement.

Now, I'm a creative person at heart, and one thing I yearn to create is music. I spent four years learning Classical guitar and three months trying to learn the violin. Unfortunately, neither instrument worked out for me. So, I'm going to learn how to play something a little more accessible. I found a Yamaha EZ-220 keyboard on Amazon.com for $160. It's designed for students, but the two main selling points for me are weighted keys for emulation of sound dynamics, and one-button access to the sound of a real Yamaha concert Grand Piano. It arrived last week. I am completely in love, and having a blast. I've finally found my ideal musical instrument.

Posting Delay

Well, I meant to post clips last month. Instead, I got sidetracked by the longest, most technically complex series of 3D art renders I’ve ever done, and was too wrapped up in them to focus on the site. If you’re interested, they’re on my DeviantArt page. It’s a 12-image series called Million Dollar Death.

Rest assured, new clips are coming.

New Category

In response to visitor feedback, and in an effort to enhance your browsing experience, I’ve added a new Category:

Nude / Topless

The titles I’ve added to it feature actresses who were visibly nude or topless before, during, and/or after their characters were attacked. Fatal and non-fatal scenes are included.

Clip Page Layout

I’ve finished redesigning the clip page layouts for Library indices G – L, and will start on M – R, soon. If you’re wondering why I started this project, my goal is to make the site more mobile friendly. This is what the old layout looks like on a 5.5″ smartphone. I can’t photograph my phone, so I shrunk my browser window and took a screenshot:



This is what the new layout looks like:



As you can see, by removing the extra table cell I was using for posters, they’re now centered above the Plot Summary, and the Plot Summary is no longer scrunched up against the right side of the screen, allowing for much easier reading. It’s not visible in the first example above, but there’s also a horizontal line separating each table on the old layout. That was a practice I carried over from my days of hand-coding HTML, and I’ve removed them as well, for a more streamlined look.
