A New FX talent

Hello Everyone,
I have been talking to a new special effects wizard who goes by the name of "Max Ultra".
He has been a fan of mine for a while evidently and has made extensive study of digital effects for blood work.
I have sent him a brief scene from an upcoming film of mine "Vargas Girl Two" and he was able to do the special effects for me:

Let me know what you think.
Personally I am thrilled to have a person who can just concentrate on special effects working with me. We have improved a great deal on this element, but I want to be able to see our genre grow and to do so I think that getting more people involved with the projects is best.
It is always a pleasure to work with new talent and from the looks of this sample I am dealing with a person who really knows his business.

Nice. Can he rotoscope for a permanent wound on different color fabric, or is it digital for now.
If all digital, and he looks like he can effectively track the wound for 10-20 frames, just cut to the makeup wound. Maybe darker on the blood and no or less of an outward spurt. Maybe ad a slight flash at impact (implied fabric spark).
Course--all that is just personal preference.
It nice to have help. Regardless of how one does the effects, the methods are always time-consuming.

Thank you for your feedback.
This is something I have wanted to do for a long time.
Outside of my personal acting and writing abilities I think that our "look" is our best feature.
For the most part we make very beautiful films.
We are not completely incompetent at doing the FX ourselves but Max wants to make this his field of concentration. Having someone with this level of skill to work with will allow me to search for new models, do more work with established stars such as Debbie...and of course continue to come up with new scenarios.
For my taste I am very happy with the blood spray. This is something we ourselves have tried to do but it has not worked out as well as this scene.
I am looking forward to working with Max and seeing what else we can to together.
I get alot of requests for arrows and I would love to do something like that

It looks something similar to the "tracer" effect pioneered by Dr Don. Very brief effect so would be interested to see how it would pan out for a longer effect. One of the great difficulties in adding digital FX is to get the wound to stay in the same place as the body moves.

Hi Smudger,
Max is a big fan of Don's work (who isn't??) so I am sure he has tried to emulate it as much as possible.
Grotto has a simple little trick for dark clothes: I don't like to stick holes in good costumes if I can help it, so we use a "marking" method during the filming.
This allows the editor to still anchor the effect in the studio.
I do have additional needs for effects in this film and am just waiting for the amazing Max to to his magic. (Magic Max...hmmm that has a nice ring to it.)

Now that is class!
I know it will mean a lot to Max to have Don's endorsement.
Personally it pleases me to see an established FX master compliment a new talent.

Max looks like he is going to be a great addition to your staff. Congratulations, we look forward to your future videos.

Not really an addition to Dalila's staff. Max is a freelancer, and I was impressed enough with Max's work and Dalila's recommendation that I've hired him to give my next Maxine X shooting video a slightly different look. Max and Maxine X! Sounds like a perfect combination to me
The editing on the Maxine X video is done. I'm just letting Max do the f/x, instead of doing it myself. The video is entitled "Targeted"! More on this exciting project closer to the release date.

Hi,
I sit corrected. Perhaps he will will be able to help you out by doing at least some of the special effects. This will take some of the load off of you.

Hi Kevin,
Yes...
The plan is to have him do all the really hard stuff, to give our videos a more exciting and professional look. (I can't wait for you fellows to see the breast shots he did for me

)
We would do the more mundane stuff such as muzzle flashes, etc.
I think it is a good idea for us to continue to do our own FX as well. The more we grow the better.
I am sure that Max will be working a lot given the fact that he is not interested in paying for models and making his own films at the moment. Though that could change. Who knows?
Maybe I'll just act in his productions some day!!
I am glad to see that Blue has decided to use him.
