From experience, yes, it does stain both clothes and skin. One alternative that we have sometimes used is clear dishwashing detergent instead of the kayro syrup. It cleans up a bit better and doesn't attract insects while shotting outdoors. But you can't put it into your mouth.

wave is right it does stain and doesn't wash out in clothes.
so only use on clothes you plan to trash later.

This is why I use the store bought variety. I've found that the Mehron brand washes out of clothes and off of skin the best. It's cheaper to use this blood than to use the homemade stuff and have to keep replacing clothes.

Yes, that's the one. That is also the stage blood that I have had the most satisfaction with. I've tried a few of the other commercial brands, and Mehron was definitely the least problematic. It only costs $20. for a full liter of the stuff. And it can be diluted if you are simply wanting buckets of blood.
All those recipes for making your own will ruin any clothes they touch and stain skin for days on end, which your actresses will hate. They will hate it so much in fact that you may very well loose actresses as a result. Without question, use the commercial brands, which can wash out of clothes and all traces on skin be gone the next day.
By the way, Mehron is safe to swallow as well.

I have used the commercial stuff as well, but do not recall what it was called, as it was long ago that I last used it. It did stain some clothing but eventually would come out. It would also stain the skin until it was thoroughly scrubbed.
