I recently turned down two private request to either share
or trade KHP videos. I have always refused such requests,
even when the video has been long out of "print," and the
producer inactive or apparently out of business. However,
there is a unique aspect to the KHP situation. Not only are
the videos no longer for sale and the producer out of
business, he has publicly disavowed his work. In your
opinion, does this make a difference? Have these videos
been abandoned?
I should acknowledge that I have sent brief, low-resolution
video excerpts to several professional producers as part of
technical issues discussions.

Re: Ethical Question
I'm sure there are those who would disagree, but since the producer stands to lose no profits at this point (since all stores have been closed down and he has publicly announced his retirement) I would think that there would be no issue with the trade of videos. If he were to come back and open up shop, then all trading/sharing should stop immediately.
Just my humble opinion.

Re: Ethical Question
The official position of Paul of KHP on this matter is that he does NOT want his videos to be shared and that he trusts me to ensure that such trading does not take place on FF. He still holds the copyrights, and copyrights are not solely for the purpose of profit. He wishes to control where his videos appear, which is nowhere, other than for those available through CNB.
Rightly or wrongly, Paul feels that these videos will lead some astray, and he does not want that on his conscience. He has destroyed all of his copies and footage (a great loss to the community) and would love to see all copies of his work destroyed. Of course, for those who purchased his work, like me, they are entitled to retain copies for their private viewing, but not for sharing. I am taking special care of my copies, because they are irreplaceable.
I do not agree with Paul, but I have to respect his position. He has taken a far different path in life, and I hope he has found happiness and fulfillment.
The stills that have been posted for review purposes on the Video and Image Share Forum are allowable, because they represent less than 1% of the copyrighted works of which they form a part.
I believe that answers the above questions and settles this issue.

Re: Ethical Question
Basically , I think you did the right thing in turning down these sharing offers. There is no sense in obtaining a copyright, if it is not going to be honored.
While we all loved Paul's work, it is time for the community to move on and encourage other producers to excel in their productions.

Re: Ethical Question
I fully agree with Blue and Kevin67. I never had any intention
of swapping KHP videos. However, since I have gotten these
requests and am likely to receive more, I thought publicly stating
the question made sense, if only to clear the air through a variety
of opinions other than my own.
