Windows8 for PCs: thumbs up or thumbs down?
Have you installed Windows8 on your non-touch-screen PC
or bought a new non-touch-screen Windows8 PC? If so
please post your comments in this thread.
Thanks.

Re: Windows8 for PCs: thumbs up or thumbs down?
Thumbs down for me.
Within 24 hours after upgrading, I found i had zero use for the Metro-style apps, and discovered that Fraps doesn't work with WinDVD or PowerDVD. I use Fraps to capture scenes from DVD and Blu-Ray disks. With Windows 8, neither program's controls will even function when Fraps is loaded.
Unless you've got a Windows 8-compatible mobile device you want to be able to sync up with your PC, there's no point in upgrading.
I re-installed Windows 7 a few days after upgrading, and will stick with it until MS releases another version that looks promising.

Nightfall, you appear to be the only one who has tried W8 for a PC - or at least you're
the only member who cares to comment. Nevertheless the outside world agrees with
you. It's become obvious Microsoft designed an OS for tablets, and then tried to adapt it
for PCs. The proof seems to be in more and more items appearing like this one:
"The 8 Worst Windows 8 Annoyances"
http://blog.laptopmag.com/the-8-worst-w ... em?slide=8
Some articles flat-out warn W7 users not to upgrade to W8.

Windows 8 software sales have bombed.
PC manufacturers are loading new PCs with Win 7 with a free upgrade to Win 8.

Re: Windows8 for PCs: thumbs up or thumbs down?
"Fix or dump Windows 8
Users still need PCs and always will because their larger screens, better keyboards and faster processors make them infinitely better at multitasking and productivity tasks than tablets. By burying the multi-window desktop in favor of full-screen apps with low- information density, Windows 8 turns your PC into a unitasker. You can actually get a better multitasking experience view with the Dual View feature on Samsung’s Galaxy 5.5-inch Galaxy Note II, which lets you split the screen evenly between two apps, than with Windows’ new Modern UI, which gives you just one full screen app plus a sliver of a second. PC manufacturers should either start selling more new computers with Windows 7 on them or configure Windows 8 to boot straight to the desktop and run a third-party Start menu replacement. Microsoft could also help by improving its interface to make it more multitasking friendly than Windows 7 rather than less."

- What is your main fetish?: A few... Shootings, (arrows, bullets, darts, beanbags, lightning bolts, watermelons whatever), stabbing and body play/posing. And more innocently, wetlook or "splosh" as its called elsewhere.
- Why do you want to join this forum?: I want to see the content and to keep up with what is produced, what others like and to be in the company of other people who share my fetishes. Growing up I thought I was the only one with these fetishes.

Its not bad on a touch tablet. Seems much more designed for content consumption than anything else. For PC? Run away and fast, and never look back.

Jerry, it seems Microsoft assumed the PC is dead. Were they ever wrong,
and now they're paying for it big time.

Re: Windows8 for PCs: thumbs up or thumbs down?
Windows 8 is officially dead. Microsoft has pulled the plug on all Win 8 and Win 7/8 sales. The feeling is Win 8.1 will also die an early death with the introduction of Win 10 next year.
Win 7 pro 64 bit sales and OEM pc installations will continue.
