I don't profess to understand piercings, but I don't think it was mere inflexability. I have had this problem with Velvet's tongue stud. I believe some piercings are not easy to take off and to re-attach, wheras there is no problem with removing and re-attaching piercings such as earrings and nose studs. Petra indicated that she wasn't comfortable removing her navel hardware, because she was concerned with re-attaching it afterwards. Does that make sense to the piercing experts out there?

Yup! my daughter had problems with her tongue stud when she had an MRI.
finally ( thankfully ) she left it out.

It makes sense, but it ruins the fantasy for me if it can't be removed occasionally for special shootings. She did a few without the jewelry before she went to a double piercing, and I continue to enjoy those. C'est la vie! Fortunately, there are lots of people out there that don't mind the hardware, but I'll pass if the answer to the request is a NEVER.
